In 2013, a group of South African designers came up with an idea to celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela by collecting 95 posters from around the world, honouring Madiba’s lifelong legacy to humanity. More than 700 posters were submitted. The collection was curated and 95 posters were exhibited around the world, and were auctioned by the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust to raise funds. The collection first went on public display on Nelson Mandela International Day, 18 July 2013, and received a great deal of media attention worldwide including major channels such as CNN, Fox News, BBC, Sky News, USA Today, Arab News and Washington Post, among others. By the end of December 2013 the collection had been exhibited at 21 venues in South Africa, as well as in Montreal, London and Barcelona.
